I work in casting, and I swear the number of “influencer” submissions has doubled in the past year. Every other day, I get someone with 2 million followers and zero acting experience submitting for lead roles. Sometimes we’re even asked to prioritize follower count over training or talent. Is this just the new normal now? Are we officially casting based on audience reach instead of actual ability?
