If a college student reached out to you asking for advice on working in the finance industry, what would you tell them? I think I would emphasize the importance of networking and staying curious.

100% contacts get you everywhere. Also not losing your shit when MD comes 24 hours before the client meeting and asks to change everything even tho it was sent weeks in advance. As that will built trust, reliability and faster promotion

It doesn't hurt to have a well though out career path (and alternate pivots). Knowing all your options can really help with getting to where you want in your career.

Financial Services? Broaden options. Financial Services is not what it used to be. Continuous cuts and offshoring.

I’d tell them the same. Networking and curiosity go a long way. Talk to people, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to explore different areas of finance early on. The industry is so broad, and the more you learn from others, the clearer your own path becomes.

Yep those would be my biggest points as well. Also, patience!

Hey Everyone,

I will be joining EY GDS in August 2021. There's a pay component "Advanced Statutory Bonus" of around 26k per annum. Any idea what this is? Is it truly fixed or will depend on firm's performance?

Thanks!

New Jersey partnership question.

Partnerships need to use market sourcing for purposes of calculating NR withholding tax (though NJ doesn't even call this withholding anymore).

However, for purposes of calculating the NJ distributive share of income, you apply Gross Income Tax (personal income tax) rules, which is 3 factor and includes COP.

If I end up with 0% apportionment under GIT and 10% apportionment under CBT (withholding tax), the partnership pays tax upfront but NRs get 100% refund?

Hello hive mind. I am currently interviewing with three agencies. Pretty far along with two of them. One of the positions is a Jr. copywriter position while the other two are just for a copywriter. How important would it be to not have the “Jr” before the title? Personally, I don’t care about the title, but wonder about future employer’s?

Disney Streaming Services I completed my interview process with DSS early last week, and was reached out by recruiter that all rounds were strong hires, and they are extending an offer. We set a time to talk on Friday about the offer. However, the announcement of targeted hiring freeze happened on Friday. I was ghosted with no call. What should I expect now? Would I still have chance to be offered?

Just found out that end of the year I will be promoted from analyst directly to VP and since it’s such a large jump I’ll be the lowest paid VP in asset management at only $135k TC. Should I stay it out and wait for TC to align or take the promotion and jump ship bc I will likely get paid more elsewhere given how recruiters/other companies eat up hiring recently promoted ppl from other firms?
