If a firm has already told me their offer isn’t negotiable, but I just received another offer that’s a bit higher, is it still worth going back to ask? And if it’s already the response deadline, is it too late to bring this up? I assume it could take them another day or two to decide internally, and then I’d still need a little time myself to make a final decision after that…It is a firm that I’m very interested so I want to be careful. Thanks!

If you’re working with a recruiter, the recruiter will know how to have this conversation without being offensive. Otherwise, if not, you could start with how excited you are to join this firm, but have received another offer and were wondering if they would be willing to be more competitive. As a desired candidate, I’d assume this wouldn’t hurt you to ask as you could always still accept the lower offer if they still say no. I wouldn’t think they would pull the offer by asking but you never know 100%. How much more would you rather be at this firm than the firm offering more money?

I’m working with a recruiter for this offer but also it’s my first time working with a recruiter. Not sure how much I should reveal. This current offer used to be my top choice. The only thing is that they offer a little bit lower than my expectation. Also, I got an interview invite from another better firm after I already got the current offer. I’m not sure how much I can get from
firm yet as we are still wrapping us the final stage these two days. Idk if I should let my recruiter know about it.

For the other higher offer, I just received it today. That’s not my top choice but they do pay better. I’m thinking about letting my recruiter know. However, I’m worried if i get another offer with the better firm in progress, I look like I’m wasting everyone’s time on this salary negotiation.

I might be overthinking but im also still new so I really appreciate your advice!

The recruiter will 100% handle it! They get a % so they are likely to know what that firm can and cant do. Be open and honest with the recruiter. Tell them you got a higher offer somewhere else and would like to accept that unless this other firm can match or go a little higher. It really depends on your experience and years of practice. Recruiters only get paid if they can place you, so they will do what they can to keep you happy especially if you are a good match for the position.

Is your offer thats higher for a similar position? How many years of experdo you have for the position you really want?

I wouldnt tell the recruiter that your higher offer isnt your top choice. Didnt you tell the recruiter your preferred salary range from the start? They always ask because thats as important for them as it is for you. Your salary is what the firm will base the recruiters % for finding you.

Transactional associate. Lateraled 6 months ago and one of the biggest pain points has been my new firm’s inclination to “hop on a call”, which of course requires every single stakeholder to join. The end result being every call has 25 people on it and nothing actually gets done because no one wants to ask a question that could come off as silly. It’s destroying my ability to get anything done during the day. It’s a complete performance and it drives me nuts.

I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.

Hi new here. Idk what my value is and if I’m getting paid an amount that reflects my hard work. I am a paralegal for a small law firm (family and immigration) w only 1 attorney. I have about 20 files or more in my rotation at a time. I work on various types of cases at once. Some are simple, others are extensive. I feel like it’s very unstructured and one of the managers micromanages. It’s like every man for himself. Take home pay is $50k. I am working on my bachelors deg. Do I get paid enough?
