Program Manager L3 salary in HCOL?
I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

IMHO, given the RIFs/ layoffs all over, which usually mean somone has to make up a reason or two for every separation, it Depends on what the real reason was and if there are any notes in your HR file that future hiring managers can look up.

Probably, unless you have ineligible for hire on your file. Idk how you would find that out unless you have a friend in HR. After Meta’s last mass layoff, it’s not unusual to have performance as stated reason for most employees laid off in tech or finance sectors to avoid mass wrongful lawsuits.
Honest answer, probably not. Hiring is very expensive and big decision, why would you hire someone that you already hired and they failed. Never say never, but would level set expectations
