If Trump abolishes the IRS, what will accounting firms do with their employees?

The longer I think about your question the less it makes sense. Even if Trump accomplishes what he’s proposing (abolish the IRS, get rid of income tax for individuals, replace revenue with tariffs) there will still be accounting, corporate income tax, tariffs, etc. All of which PA firms advise on. They’ll be fine.

All of these posts make me laugh.. Thank you all. I work in the private sector and have 22 years with building companies. As well as federal state backgrounds. Not a CPA but am Governmental certified as a finance officer as well as both accounting and finance degree. We will always have work! Where people make mistakes with pay as well as any other reporting. There we go. Love all of these replies. Don’t we all do the same thing? We fix mistakes. We make reports. Lol. Thanks

This post makes my head spin.

1. The IRS isn’t going anywhere.
2. Accounting firms and the IRS are unrelated.
3. Let’s say the IRS does go away, the SEC will still require audits of public companies. Banks will still require audits for loans. Taxes for companies still need to get done. Companies will still engage accounting firms for advisory services unrelated to audit and tax. The IRS does not matter for any of these things.

Please breathe.

I'm pretty sure he can't just shut it down to begin with. It takes an act of Congress. And it would be ridiculous because if there's no IRS that pretty much means there's ZERO incoming revenue, which would be the only way that would make sense. Obviously, without revenue the government shuts down immediately and COMPLETELY. No Social Security, No Medicare, No military, NOTHING! It all just stops. So, he's an idiot. He obviously has ZERO idea how money works 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣! Talk about irony.

Also can’t just fire probationary employees the way he did. Also can’t enforce a RIF which the agencies have been informed that is coming next after the probationary employees are fired. he can’t create an agency out of thin air but he did that. He’s doing a lot of things legally he’s not allowed to do but getting away with it bc congress wont stop him and any lawsuit that is thrown at him he removes the judge and appoints his own.

I didn’t see anything on abolishing the IRS in the Project 2025 playbook so i’m guessing it will be ok

There will be some deregulation but i think taxes will still be around

I see why he would say that and I understand everybody’s opinion it’s agreeable however what I don’t like is hearing that our hard earned tax dollars are going to foreign countries for nonsense !!! Somehow we the people have allow this to happen and we can only be upset with ourselves because we have been tricked! We the people need to put our money where our mouth is and go get all of the bureaucratic old yucky unintelligent scam artist out of there! We definitely need to come together and show the world not just anyone here in the states but the world that we the people of the United States will take care of the United States first and only thereafter if the citizens decide to help another country. . …………. That’s just that !! we have to rebuild our government as well. Notice all these countries getting together against the United States of America .

We have rented out all of our economic growth, all of our human resources, and the ability to stabilize an economy with supply and demand this country should not be in this turmoil. But that’s what the dark side or enemies evil wants you to do. It is classic textbook Bible literature. People only do what you allow them to do to you. I do believe that the American people have been doing this way too long and the sad part is it’s not the foreigners hurting us. It’s our people hurting us !!! shaking my head wondering did I really serve in the United States army For four years just to be embarrassed at the end of the day in 2025. I wish everybody would just understand we do all have the right of freedom of speech & press!
Somehow, the media has changed we have broadcasting news channels that are fighting against one another. We have politicians fighting against one another. We can’t get anything done because everybody wants to fight. Guess what ?????? that’s exactly what the enemy wants to happen and we are allowing it to happen . We all need to stop arguing , stop hurting one another , stop talking about one another, it’s not getting us anywhere !!! basically the world stage is definitely looking at America and laughing at us! Needless to say, this is the error of our own demise. Everything that our forefathers are any of the people that died for this country that built for this country whether you’re an Eskimo and Indian, whether you are an African-American it doesn’t matter. Because we all have the same color blood at the end of the day it’s not that hard to be nice. All of this is about greed, selfishness, and shame on us all of us because this is not what looks good and we’re going to lose it ALL!

Are you thinking about the new ERS agency that has been proposed and spoken about? It just sounds like another IRS. There's only 10k auditors at the IRS as it is, and they just lost all the brand-new hires they just training, my old coworkers are being put back into field agent positions (not that they left, their workload was just lessened for teaching new hires). This just tossed a bunch of new accountants looking for work, competition is fierce.
