If you generally deserve to be promoted and have another (better in everyway, bigger company) offer to go elsewhere for that next level (Senior to AGC) how is it appropriate to bring that up?

If the other offer is way better, what is the reason for trying to stay?

like

Don’t bring up the competing offer; have a frank convo about promo timelines and leave if you’re not satisfied with the response. You want to see how they respond without knowledge of the offer; that’ll show you what they really think of you and how they’ll treat you after any panic about you having an offer wears off.

The standard advice is to never stay to accept a counter offer to keep you at your current company bc they know you’re willing to walk (less loyal) and will treat you accordingly going forward (less investment in development)

How’d it go? Are you planning on giving notice now?

When my job is to handle all the corporations issues does it ever get hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel? Like that this business will survive? It will get its next round of funding? This litigation won’t wipe us out… something’s I just become very pessimistic about the future of the company.

Currently working on a three person team in a larger GC group. I lateraled from a different group that did not pay attorneys on an attorney scale. I’m stuck in my old pay scale but have gotten promotions and raises quickly with more on the horizon. A recruiter reached out with a new role for 2-2.5x more than I currently make doing something similar. I love my company and the people I work with but the money isn’t there. Is it worth trying to get a counter to stay if I get the bigger offer?

What would be a typical salary for a junior in house counsel role (3 yoe) at a publicly traded company in a secondary market (think Austin, Tampa, Charlotte)? I’m having a really hard time finding what a reasonable range would be. Most positions I’m applying to require desired salary in the application, and the truth is I’d accept anything north of 125k but don’t want to undersell myself and take a bigger cut than necessary coming from biglaw.

NFW- I just had a good laugh. Earlier today I was on a video conference call reviewing a Private Label Agreement template with a larger company who wishes to brand label products we develop and manufacture. We came to a very one-sided provision and my sales VP stated “for this one, how can we just say ‘hell no’ ...nicely?” The other person on the call said we can replace the wording with just NFW (no f@$* way) and I said “I will have to add that to the defined terms section so it’s clear”
