If you’re lateraling and are on a firm’s website but are no longer employed, and you accept an offer somewhere else, does the new firm find out that you’re no longer employed? (such as when you’re clearing conflicts)

They'll find out when they conduct an employment verification, which is done after you accept an offer during the background check process. Firms use a third-party service for this and will confirm dates of employment, so it's possible this could be flagged and might cause an issue if you've been dishonest about your firm tenure.

OP's post said "no longer employed". Many firm's will put a person on unpaid leave to give them more website time, which is what you're referring to. In that case, the attorney's are still technically employed but on unpaid leave. No need to get upset and curse about it.

Do you pay your credit cards in full every month?

I ask because I’ve let my credit spending get a bit lax since moving and adopting a puppy recently, so I haven’t been paying them off in full every month like I used to (though still well above the minimum payment, and keeping utilization at 30% or under). It got me thinking about how many people adhere to this advice.

Junior Associates - How much student loan debt are you and your peers in these days? A few young partners and counsel at my firm were discussing the student loan moratorium and most of us were convinced we could have paid the majority of our loans off with the bonuses associates got these last two years. But we are all old and when we graduated 150k to 200k was about the max student loan debt people graduated with. So educate me. What is the average student loan debt these days?

Was interviewing with a firm and soon after receiving an offer, learned of bad culture/toxic partners in the practice group from a couple of associates who recently lateraled from the firm. Lateral that just went through first bonus season with the firm. Not in a major market but workload is comparable to major markets. Surprised at how low the bonus was. I received solid reviews and my annualized hours were well above the requirement. Should I approach anyone about this? Wondering if it is worth addressing or if it could compromise my standing. Thanks in advance!
