I'm 50+, and I'm feeling the pinch of "aging out". I see a lot of 50-67 age groups being let go, forced to quit, laid off, or retired early. How did you upgrade your job skills or pivot to remain workable? This is weighing heavily on my heart, and I just don't feel I have it in me anymore to deal with the things at my job. It's like they're doing things to make me want to quit. But if I do, where do I begin in my new life to continue to work until I'm old enough to retire per law? Lost!!

I feel your pain !!!! I am 65 and want to work, but getting hired on at this age is close to impossible. I want a real job with a Good Salary and good benefits, not minimum wage when I ve worked all my life in sales. It is Soooo hurtful and humiliating to have to lower your standards. Trust me no one cares about the elderly. I've been in the job market for 15 years now. I even went back to school at 50 yrs old and got my Paralegal Degree and also went to school at 60 yrs old for Life Insurance Lic. and it got me nowhere. Any suggestions on how to proceed. let me know??? h e l p It looks like Im going to have to sell my house soon if I can't get work. OH and by the way, I have been working jobs that treat elderly less than a second hand citizen. It a messed up world.!

Curious, have you look into cryptocurrency mining before?.. There’s always something new to learn in the digital space these days.

I feel you on this. I hate this stigma that says "if you're not in a leadership position by 40, you're basically useless in corporate America"

For those who are 65 and still actively looking, I wonder did your previous jobs not have a pension that you can tap into now? Or does your country not offer retirement benefits at 65? Genuinely curious and not trying to sound blame-y (as many tend to, not knowing what curveballs life has thrown). I am also 50+ so reading with an eye to the future...

There’s always something new to learn in the digital space these days. Anyone else here interested in how online mining systems actually operate?

I would appreciate your perspective.
I am currently working on my MBA in a professional evening and weekend program at a highly accredited university. I am thinking about transferring to a much smaller private online program, specifically because they offer a concentration in organizational health, which directly builds on my doctoral research. Does great depth and specialization outweigh the value of a highly respected generalist degree?

Additional Posts in Career Pivot

Been in consumer insights all my work life (10 years) and considering pivoting to product or product marketing manager roles. Yet I have had some interesting convos for people manager roles in insights recently and wondering if I should maybe refocus my efforts there. I’m looking for a broader mandate than just my immediate pipeline. I have been enjoying insights but grow frustrated by the lack of decision-making power. I rather would want to take a path with high long term career potential.

Pivoting away from Sales: I’ve been in sales positions for 15 years, and I’m just exhausted by the role (disputing commissions, arguing about deals, all of it). I have a degree in marketing, but I am having a hard time landing interviews since I’ve never had a strictly marketing only role. Can anyone provide any advice, or has anyone successfully moved away from sales?

I'm at a career juncture and have decided on a career in anti-money laundering as my new path. I'm also highly interested in additional education to further my career and am eyeing graduate school. Which is best? A law degree or a master's in international relations? Those are where my interests lie. I keep reading that JDs are valued in compliance but am wondering if a different graduate program is better for my goals. I already plan to obtain the CAMS certification. Thank you!

Studied accounting and finance but worried about the future of this profession. Currently working in Forensic Consulting but want to leave. Additionally, I’m sick of people looking down on me. My gf is getting a PhD in a social science and gets way more respect then me. I am 25 also. HELP

My old employer asked me if I wanted to come back to the company as a manager. The pay will likely be much better and the position holds more responsibility than I’ve had before, so overall it would be a step up. The issue is I left the company because of an abusive manager who constantly put me down and made me feel like I wasn’t doing anything right. If I come back I’d be working under her again. I’m torn because the opportunity is great but the stress was awful. Continued in comments…

I have over 12 years in B2B sales/sales management experience along with a graduate degree. I am wanting to shift gears and I am at a point where I can invest time in myself to learn through practical experience. The new industry I am wanting to pursue is real estate investment. I have read all the books but want some hands on experience on the property management side. How could I best leverage my skills for a role in this, and what should my expectations be for negotiation in compensation?

Does anyone have any recommendations of career coaches or where to begin to research legit ones? I’m a part-time MBA student at a top 25 program and have 13 years of work experience, mostly in government contracting, with a few deviations from the industry. I would like to use the MBA to make a career pivot, but I’m having a hard time choosing a path to target. I’d like to explore working 1-on-1 with a career/executive coach to help with this process.

Hi everyone. I'm pretty early in my career (just over 1 YOE) & not really enjoying my current role as a Consultant/Developer because of the type of projects I get combined with some mobility issues.
