You’re likely a very bright person. Hard working. High achieving. Never feel bad about making a mistake … it’s part of the learning process. It’s not realistic to think you will never make a mistake …. And no one else is going to hold you to that standard.
Do you expect 100% perfection from everyone else? No you do not … so why hold yourself to that impossible standard? No good can come from it.
Prepare. Plan. Try not to make mistakes. But when they happen learn from them. Think of it as another form of education … except it’s not in the classroom but in the real world.
If you keep striving, learning, trying new things, new jobs, new relationships … then making mistakes is baked into the cake. It’s part of the process!
Finally, the absolute worst thing you can do when you make a mistake is deny it or try to cover it up. I’ve seen senior people make this mistake and it’s so dumb. Most people are actually really forgiving if you say something like “I’m really sorry. I made a mistake. I should have checked the abc. now I know to do xyz.” Or something like that. The faster you admit the mistake the faster everyone moves into how to fix it, what to do now mode. But if you deny or hide it I’ve seen small things BLOW UP for hours and hours. Just admit it. Say you’re sorry. And either say what you are going to do better / differently the next time or flat out ask what would be a better way to handle it in the future.
And always remember some of the best discoveries in the world were mistakes! Discovered by accident when something went sideways. Exhibit A: look up the story of post it notes by 3M.
The hard part about qc is figuring out the insane amount of rules and attempting to be "perfect". If youre in pharma they metrics for right the first time and analyst caused failures are very difficult with out alot of exp. Just make the effort and always ask many questions. Ive trained many and made many mistakes, so just keep at it and prioritze yourself and growth above the business.
Always remember the people making the decisions are alot more flexible than you think, your direct boss will impact your situation the most though. Good luck.
A lot of high functioning people struggle with thoughts of inadequacy. I didn’t understand that I had anxiety and depression until I was 50 years old. I was working on capital projects worth about 55 million in today’s dollars. We had a regime change at work. The new management pushed my manager into retirement and his manager resigned. People on my team were being forced out. Under these trying circumstances, I found that I needed counseling to deal with stressors.
Find ways to center yourself in these storms. I found that I needed to spend time intentionally working on relaxation and guiding my thoughts. Invest in your mental well being. Take time to take care of yourself physically and mentally.
People are often more critical of themselves than others are critical of them. Experience and perspective will help you determine where you need to improve.
Finally, realize that Corporate America pushes many people to their breaking point. As another person in this thread said, a lot depends on the kind of manager you have. If you have a good manager, you will generally have a good work experience.
The person who never makes a mistake is the person who does nothing.
A mistake never made is a lesson never learned. A mistake made repeatedly is a failure to understand the lesson.

This is a good quote to remember

Do you ever really remember mistakes other people made? At the end of the day I doubt people remember yours. Id just focus on learning from each mistake so it doesn't happen again, we all mess up occasionally.
