You’re not hating. I think the pandemic interrupted crucial socialization for Gen Z lawyers. They’re suspended in a high school/college mindset professionally.
I had to tell a partner last week that using a summer for research would increase the bill not decrease it, because their errors have been so extensive throughout the summer that I have had to redo and correct so substantially that it takes more time than doing it myself would.
I’m an 8th year. Summer work product has always been iffy at best. But this summer has been so awful that I have recommend not hiring someone for the first time in my career.

Research and writing skills are non existent with recent classes. I’m getting a lot of chat GP slop in response to assignments.

Dear god people born in '94 are old enough to have views on younger generations? Oof. When did i get that old.

I’m born in 96. I think I’ve noticed a very sharp divide between new people doing things like the above and new people taking this very (perhaps too) seriously. I’ve been informed this was the same dynamic for millennials and Gen X. A lot of people have always been here to do 3 years & then work at a non-profit, fed job, go in-house, etc. That’s true of Gen Z as well.
You might just be dealing just with short-timers because of dumb luck (or your recruiting team goofed).
Fair points
I’ve been practicing employment law for 20 years so I’ve seen how different generations work in all different industries. It’s not a new generation thing. There are loads of terrible employees across all generations, we just tend to notice it more in generations younger than ourselves because we’re experienced enough to “know better” and compare them to how we were at their age. If I had to pick any generational difference I would say older workers who are poor employees tend to stay and make everyone around them miserable whereas younger workers who are poor employees will ghost or have poor attendance so I would say at least the younger workers are more humane.
Ok but relatedly - if you are emailing a client do you use the capitalization from the agreement or not?
“Because Acme is an Affiliate of Buyer, the assignment to Acme is a Permitted Assignment and we do not need to seek the consent of Seller.” or
“Because Acme is an affiliate of the buyer, the assignment to Acme is a permitted assignment and we do not need to seek the consent of seller.”
I am litigation, not transactional, so *something something* grain of salt. But I clerked and my judge would ALWAYS want the latter.

The cycle continues. “When I was your age…”
OP, just out of curiosity what year are you?
