I'm finding parking downtown is absolutely brutal lately with all the RTO. Has anyone else experienced this? Because I swear, even when I arrive at my office building in Penn Quarter before 8 AM on a Thursday, which used to guarantee me a spot in the garage, I'm now stuck circling for a good 20 minutes and sometimes have to park several blocks away. It's just making my already long commute from Bethesda even worse. Anyone else?

Metro

likesmart

I've been using the Metro for years, it's very seldom that I'll drive into the city. And I can't imagine doing it these days. Even apart from the RTO business, there's always something going on, construction or motorcades or whatever.

I work in Foggy Bottom and used to park in the garage on F Street with no trouble. Now, even arriving at 7:30 AM doesn’t guarantee a spot. It’s wild that there are just so many people back in the office these days, and I swear they’re all parking in the same garages I used to count on. I’ve even had to park in the street a couple of times and pay those insane meter rates. Just adds more stress to my already exhausting day.

Take the metro.

What will get me to be able to work for longer than 35 minutes without getting distracted?

Anyone have experience with Dept of Public Safety? Are they disorganized? Do they have a bad culture? I am starting to think they suck based on my application experience with them , compared to other state agencies.

Is it really that difficult to get hired for a federal job? I was interviewed for a GS12 job but never heard back, they still didn’t hire anyone and I didn’t get a rejection. I applied for another GS07 job, was accepted, I took it, but I believe I can do better. I have a master’s and have extra graduate research experience. I am still applying to new jobs but I was told it is impossible to move up the grade level now. Everyone is telling me to stick with the government. What are your thoughts?

I work through a contractor, and was hired 2yrs ago to be a Systems Test Engineer II. They decided last minute to make me a Software Content Manager, but kept my title as is since it was supposed to be a 6mo rotation. I’m still an SCM, and am taking on leadership roles in the group. How do I ask for a title change and pay increase to reflect what I actually do? Do I ask my contract house, or my NASA mgmt? Should I ask to make the pay retroactive since I was hired to do one thing, but do another?

I currently work in Private (GA) Aviation & have for some time (about 12 years) I’m currently making the switch to the Department of Aviation and am unsure if I should ditch my current job (in private) and go full force with the DOA & embrace this new opportunity educationally and gather as much experience as I can or keep both jobs even though I’d be working 80hr weeks.. I love the private world but am really ready to move up. I don’t know what I should do. Any suggestions?

This might be a long shot but I'm looking for a volunteer who is trying to break into a federal career. Maybe a transitioning veteran, recent grad, or career-changer.

I'm pursuing my master career coaching cert and need to do a recorded 45-minute session. You don't have to be identified if you don't want to.

The single session is all I'm asking but could certainly turn into a longer lasting coaching relationship (at no cost), if you like.
