I’m having some performance issues on my team. Specifically, someone at the manager level lacks a sense of urgency in getting work done. I’ve laid out expectations for getting things done (I.e. respond to email w/in 24 hours, feedback to agencies w/on 48 hours) and still not meeting these deadlines. Aside from a performance plan, any other suggestions for increasing the pace of getting our work done? Don’t want to manage out in the event headcount gets reallocated elsewhere.

Is the need for urgency real? Is the person doing a good job otherwise? I get annoyed with a false sense of urgency. Creating deadlines that don’t need to exist. It’s a way to really burn out your ppl. If you are the only one impacted or complaining- you might want to think twice about firing someone just bc they don’t answer an email in 24 hrs.

Good perspective. Performance is okay, not stellar. If the work were so amazing, I’d give it a pass more easily. I’ve gotten the feedback from multiple people about the sense of urgency and not getting responses from this person so they are then getting held up in what they’re trying to do too.

I would ask them what is causing them to not meet their deadlines. Most of the time when this happens its just a lack of efficiency or they are unaware of tools they should have access to in order to be succesfull in their role

What is their response when you ask why they’re blowing off deadlines?

It’s generally that they are waiting on someone else to do something before she can get her stuff done.
