I have been narrowing down the places by visiting them virtually, however, I will visit them in person before I sign the lease.
I would like to see the house and also what other issues maybe there that are not visible when looking at it virtually. Paint job, heating issues , neighborhood, appliances, etc.
That’s my preference.
For sure - there are so many things you can only pick up in person. For instance, a building’s covid safety protocol and how respectful residents are is super important to me.
Where are you coming from? I’ve been upstate and just drove in for the wknd to check places out (made appts ahead of time). Stayed in a nice hotel and made a lil staycation out of it (bc thats the closest thing to a real vacay i’ve had in a year 😩). I do think the rental market has picked up - each place i saw had multiple viewings in the same day.

I’d really suggest trying to come and view a few places in person - maybe just take a day or two. Even after narrowing it down via virtual viewings and doing research, there’s still a lot of issues you’ll only discover in person. There have been 2 different full-service apartment buildings I’ve toured in the past where the individual apartment looked great, but there were major problems with the building. 1 I realized when I waited 15 minutes for the elevator to view the apartment and a resident mentioned the elevators are regularly down; another was overhearing 2 residents complain about what a dump the building was and that the hot water never worked.
Thanks all - sounds like I should view in-person (as I thought). Does anyone have experience with leasing and moving in immediately?
From staying 15 nights in Hyatt Place, you’d get top Hyatt status through the end of February 2023, which could be nice just for personal trips (waives parking and resort fees and provides free breakfast, lounge access, and suite upgrades), and you’d get enough points for up to three free nights (if used for a category 1 property) just from staying 15 nights at a $69/night Hyatt Place assuming no status and you don’t have a Hyatt credit card.
