Kerplunk, Horse Race, Connect Four-all used for whole class behavior management. I also do a house system in my classroom. 4 houses and they are divided into each. Houses gets points based on certain behavior/expectations being met/going above and beyond
Assign two students to “be the teacher” during quiet independent work time. While every student is working and you are working with a small group, your two helpers work & periodically watch the class. Most of the time they can do this directly at their seats. While working they just periodically will scan the class to see who is on task and quiet. But if the class is really struggling I announce that they are allowed to walk around periodically to determine who is the mystery student. This really has an impact and gets the class quiet rather quickly. At the end of small group work time you ask your helpers to announce who were the mystery student leaders who were working quietly and on task. The chosen students get a treasure from the teacher!
Class vs teacher points
Class dojo all the way! No consequences for dojoing down. Top 4/5 earners each week get a ticket for the weekly treasure box drawing and lunch with me the following Monday. I never display their points and I tell them discreetly during transition times when they're lined up. "I'll only tell you your points if you're standing quietly!" goes a long way!
Keep a roll of tickets on hand like you would use for a raffle. When a student is working especially hard, showcasing expectations, or going out of their way to be kind, write their name on a ticket and drop it in a bucket. Pick from the bucket for special helpers, small prizes, getting to sit in a special place, etc. It has worked really well with my kiddos.
Class Dojo and Whole Brain Teaching.
Class dojo, and rewards based on points. Another thing is brain based rules. I don't know why it's called that, but we have motion s for each rule, and if somebody is breaking a rule I will show them the motion. My other students have picked up on it, and use the motions to remind peers.
