I was planning on staying until 70, but earlier this year, I wrapped up a great project, had some bench, admin and training time which allowed me to realize I really didn't want to spend anymore time dealing with clients.
Retiring this Friday at age 66.
Love it!!! Park Service is great and gives you…. Freedom (at least it seems like it does out by me). Love it and for real - congrats on retiring from a job so Corporate that it made you post on FB!!!
I’m thinking another year and I’m out. Not quite 60 yet. Husband is almost 65 and would like to have time together as we were older when we married and our last child graduates this year.

If don’t have to worry about insurance you should retire! Otherwise you have to wait to go on Medicare which is 62!
Probably never, but I will shift to writing about my expertise instead of consulting about it.

Great to continue and great for your mind
There are plenty of resources that will pay for expertise
I’m 45 and the thought of doing this shit past 50 fills me with dread and despair. Would love your guidance - what is it you love about the work? And has it always been that way or did you eventually find a patch of the business that fit your interests and abilities?
I found a patch of the business that fit my interests and abilities. And I want to keep doing that. I no longer need to be a super star always looking to move up.
Thanks for reviving this bowl. I don’t have a plan - I like what I do and my firm doesn’t have a mandatory retirement age. At the year-end conversation, they ask if I’m happy with them and I ask if they are happy with me. Until one of us answers no, I’m in.
I do get tired of being asked in social situations some variation of “why are you still working?”

I managed to retire at 70! But I took my last year in consulting going part time and taking care of some health issues! I worked since I was 15 years old, working through college, raising a family, and managed consulting travel. I have no idea how I did it! I cannot believe I had the time because today retired I can seem to have any free time at all!
I retired at 69, and am so glad!!!
Congratulations!
Probably 70! I have always loved working and greatly enjoy the “service” of writing and winning grants & funding aimed at helping underserved/overlooked populations. I keep learning and have harnessed AI to assist me in doing more in less time.
That actually sounds like rewarding work. It’s nice to hear a good news story - people doing things to help those in need. Play on, player, play on!
Eight years out, slowly shifting from client service to board advisory roles.
46, M. I can't imagine doing this job past 50. Our goal is barista FIRE at 50.
SM2 - happy for you dude and gives me hope 🙏
I plan to work well past 70 because I need to. And, in my family, 70 is late middle age! What are the opportunites for people like us?
Just over 60 and likely going to 70 to keep the activity. It's still a challenge and fun [definition still like it]
If it becomes a hindrance I'll review what things look like financially

I still a little consulting now and then, but I like the flexibility of choice
I am 71 and see no end to my adding value to this world - no such thing as retirement
I am starting a charity funds creation organization
