I'm not one of those Luddites who think digital technology has made creativity "too easy. What I miss from "the old days" is executing concepts in "medium fidelity." For low-fi, we have wireframes in Figma or XD, and for hi-fi renderings we have Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. But there's no real equivalent to markers and layout pads for producing "tissues." Too often we narrow down to a few finished executions rather than many loosely executed concepts. And I think we lose something.

💯 Agree! Not sure why it’s taken this route. Maybe because clients are asking for faster and more work volume, while AI and other tools have made “finished” less time consuming, so it’s more tempting to hang there. But I think it contributes to less thinking in the work.

Quick iterations, without the focus on finish yet, allows productive concepting. There’s brain can fire and become “ idea bursty” rather than tripped up on details prematurely. There’s a momentum that supports depth and substance—the foundation for great creative.

The deeper thinking, the trudging through the most obvious ideas needs to happen before the idea gems surface, and we never get there by focusing too early on visual treatments and executions that we love—these become distractions to our best concept work.

I wish more creatives understood and embraced this.

as a strategist I have done this kind of lo fi hand drawn work and put screenshots into decks as part of early concepting with internal teams and even have shared with clients when we are in collab mode

I feel left out in my firm. How do I make 'friends' with my colleagues? I've been here for a year. I am naturally not a very out going person, was never 'cool' and I struggle to speak in group situations / make engaging conversation with higher ups. It is an important trait to have in this job and I just don't know how to do this. It makes me very upset - I even sought therapy but wasn't useful. I can't spend 14 hours each day feeling like this:(

New York folks:
Are you aware of the CPA exam credit extension to 2021 for NY CPA candidates impacted by COVID19? It’s on a person-by-person basis and you need to request the extension. Has anyone tried doing this yet? Can anyone shine more light on this? The extension would really help me, but I’m not sure what more to tell them in my email than the fact that I couldn’t sit for the exams this Spring/Summer due to test centers closing in NYC.

How do I be a decent manager to a coworker who's upset I've been promoted twice in two years and they haven't? We started out as coworkers, became decent friends after a few good moments, but went back to simply coworkers after they flubbed a few projects and I had to step in to clean up. I'm non-confrontational but year-end reviews are right around the corner and I'm worried about having to act professional to someone who I got too close with and who now hates me.
