Im on short term disability leave and its coming to an end. The employer has offered for me to go on "Disability Retiree" status. I would no longer be employed and would get benefits at a reduced rate (a bit less than Cobra). Does anyone have experience with this status or implications for future job offers.

I do sales for a major engineering firm. Focused on new business and exploring new markets. Last year I was in the top 50% for order intake, and first in number of projects won along with number of new customers. I think this is extraordinary given the effort it takes to win new business.
