What is the salary hike you aim for when negotiating compensation with a new company? I’ve talked to a few and ultimately passed because none of them are meeting the 30% increase I’m looking for. Are companies already starting to be stingy again or am I looking in the wrong place?

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. How do you handle people’s kids showing up on video meetings? Screaming, kicking, hamming it up, (wasting time.) Everyone else is coo-ing…I’m not a kids person. We have sales people in Canada and the US, the Canadians make 150K CAD and down here it’s 150K USD, the Canadians argue they should be making 30% more than the US colleagues to be equal bc of the exchange! I explain the salary is dependent on the market data for them in Canada, WHERE THEY LIVE, and you can’t compare it to the US employees and the market data down here. Overall they are both in the 75th% for total comp. for their industry. Am I wrong?

Does where you get your masters degree matter? I’m in an online environmental science masters program at an expensive “name-brand” school, but have colleagues telling me I should transfer to a less expensive program to save $ because no one cares about where your degree is from. Is it really that difficult to get hired for a federal job? I was interviewed for a GS12 job but never heard back, they still didn’t hire anyone and I didn’t get a rejection. I applied for another GS07 job, was accepted, I took it, but I believe I can do better. I have a master’s and have extra graduate research experience. How do I easily find any cells that are hard coded vs formula? I have 10,000 rows of data and column F is supposed to be a formula based on columns C and D, without clicking into all 10k cells in column F how can I make sure formulas are there and not accidentally hand keyed over?
