I’m really interested in becoming a UX designer. Can anyone recommend some good courses/ certifications?

Hey, what do you do currently? There may be some skills you already have that would help an aspect of moving into UX. Also what type of UX practitioner do you want to be (researcher, designer etc?)

So I'd say you're likely to be familiar with the requirements side of things and working with a Product Owner? If so that's great as the main thing being a UX designer is that you're solving the user pain points but also meeting business goals (that form requirements) with the solution you create. Even if you are more focused on design you still have to understand the importance of user research and how behavioural patterns influence how things are used.
Get familiar with the double diamond approach and lean UX as a lot of companies follow these processes. Read up on design thinking too.
'design of every day things' is a classic entry UX book, also 'don't make me think' by Steve Krug.
Finally I'd say being technically minded helps a lot when working with developers to build a platform/app etc as you need to understand what's technically feasible as well as any constraints when designing a solution.

If you can, a great first step would be to try and pair or shadow a UX designer on a project, so you can learn from real life examples.

Working in consulting myself I've mentored a lot of BAs to help them transition into UX, and it's definitely achievable, might not be quick but if you're not shy of hard work you can do it ☺️

Let me know if you have any more questions or anything, I'm happy to help!

This is my first job in a large corporate company, and I’m trying to gauge how long it normally takes to move from entry level to another internal position in the insurance industry. I have been applying internally for a year now and I am wondering if this is normal or if my company is just slow? I am a top performer, with great metrics, and I have some wonderful connections I’ve made who support me. I just can’t seem to move up. How long did it take you to move up? How many tries did it take?

I’ve been approached my by company that one of our large clients (who im currently project managing for) is looking for a consultant of sorts, and if they hire us, I’d be the first person asked to take on this consultant role. This isn’t something my company typically offers and would greatly change the scope of my role. Has anyone ever taken on a role like this? If so, were you able to negotiate a percentage of the consulting fee? Or was it a bump in salary during the project?
