I’m starting to feel like I’m not “senior” enough to land director-level roles, but I’m too experienced to be considered for entry-level pivots. I’ve been in public for 5+ years and want to change lanes, but I keep getting ghosted by stretch roles and overlooked for the more junior ones. Anyone else stuck in this weird mid-career no-man’s-land? How do you reposition yourself when you’re too seasoned to be cheap talent but not quite a plug-and-play leader?

The current job market is tough. First get your license, then you’ll need to be a manager somewhere for at least 1 year, preferably 2. You need that title on your resume.

It’s really stupid but it is what it is in this job market.

Should you discuss salary range with an internal company recruiter prior to setting up an interview? With external recruiters it’s pretty easy to talk about the expected range. I am trying to avoid wasting all of our time if i get to the last interview and they are expecting a salary that is too low for me.
