I’m working for an ads platform company in Japan and thinking about moving to the US or elsewhere. Would love to hear your story, or I can share anything about working life in Tokyo!

Hi. I’ve moved to the UK, China and US. Visa / work permits are typically the most challenging piece of the puzzle. But luckily it always worked out in the end and I’m so grateful for all those different experiences. Let me know if any specific questions - happy to help answer any of them :)

I have a European passport. Moving with your company is certainly the easiest logistically. If that’s not an option I recommend spending a couple of weeks in the city where you want to move to and meet as many people as possible. Things may not work out directly but keep in touch with everyone regularly and it may lead to a job offer. When I moved to UK I didn’t have a job but back then as a European I had the right to work so I just packed my stuff and started looking for a job once I was there. If that’s an option (from a visa/work permit perspective), that’s definitely helpful since companies easily get scared when they have to relocate you.

Or just go straight to people in my intended location with cold requests/emails? Thoughts and views welcome!

I’m a bit worried about finding a job similar to the one that I have now in NYC, especially because I’m Latin and I know how competitive New York can be. Any thoughts and recommendations?

Good Morning. Here's my dilemma. I have an approved H1B application which got picked up in 2019-20 lot and approved in Jan 2020, before the world went into lockdown. The stamping process was initiated but it couldn't complete as the USCIS offices were shutdown die to the pandemic. I have watched patiently about all the regulations Trump Administration brought in to deny any entry to H1B applicants who weren't already working in the states or who were waiting to return.
