Hello! I'm actually interested in making the opposite move. Currently in the US but interested in other parts of the world, London being one of them. Would love to chat about the UK and the potential of making the move across the Atlantic!
Hey, what were the aspects of the criteria on the 0-1 visa application you fulfilled in order to be granted the Visa? Was it winning awards? Being apart of a judging panel? Writing for a industry publication? Was it a gruelling process? (I’m currently a UK based creative interviewing for US agencies)
Separate – I believe applications are considered individually. Our lawyers built individual cases for my creative partner and me. You’ll both have skills/talents/experiences to bring to the table that differ so the letters should be different.
Theres a bowl called Advertising U.S aliens. Its small too but kinda similar.
How long did it take? Was it expensive? Did the company help (in cost and logistics)? In terms of physically moving, did you ship your entire life from London? What are the most important things to pull together for the application?
18 months start to finish (interviews with US agency to moving over). Money-wise a sponsor agency should cover legal costs and give you a good relocation package (can’t disclose but ours included flights, 1st month’s accommodation, shipping). I shipped clothes, books, two chairs that had sentimental value. Brought as many clothes as poss the day I moved – two huge suitcases – so I wasn’t waiting for lots of stuff. I bought furniture here as it was easier, but I lived with my parents in London before I moved to save money. I came with a cushion of $10,000 so I could buy furniture right away and deal with anything unexpected. (The first year is expensive.) Not having a social security number or credit score immediately means some apartment buildings needed a screenshot of bank balance alongside letter from employer as proof you can pay rent. Everything is equally as important application-wise – 8-10 solid letters, then hit as many of the requirements as you can multiple times over. Eg 1 opinion piece isn’t enough, go for more to show ‘sustained acclaim’ (it’s one thing they look for)
