This is not an isolated event. He just got caught this time.
He'll lay low for a while and then get a similar role in a lesser known agency that wants awards. Don't worry so much about him.
Pro
(1) How many agency leaders have asked their staff to bend the truth to support a case study film?
(2) If the entry was based on fabricated evidence, how soon does Cannes Lions rescind the award?
He’s didn’t throw away a career.
In fact, not only will he be fine, but he’ll land another high-paying CCO job w/in 6 months.
C-suites love surrounding themselves fellow ego-maniacs who do whatever it takes to make bank.
What’s the tea on this? What did he do? Also, do you think I am Gen Z bc I said tea?
I feel bad. I always liked him
They’re just throwing him under the bus
Absolutely absurd to say the CCO was “thrown under the bus”.
Imagine hiring people to run all the agencies based on trophies.
We don’t have to imagine it
The agency should be banned from Cannes next year, the festival needs to send a message and draw the line
This isn’t a first time and won’t be a last for the CCO or the agency. This One Show ad got exposed, they get slapped on the wrist, and go right back to it because awards = better pay and more opportunities.
Many agencies have fostered a culture of: “Forget ROI or what’s best for clients. Come up with the most insane, off-the-wall idea you can. If it’s good enough for the award judges then that’s all that matters.”
The app compresses uploaded images, which I have no control over. Even with my bad eyesight, and no glasses on, I can clearly see the ad says “The tsunami killed 100 times more people than 9/11” and has the WWF logo.
Maybe invest in a phone with a larger screen since all platforms can’t accommodate ADs who try to squeeze 15MB deliverables through a 500KB limit.
It’s not that hard not to totally fake material for an award submission. I don’t fake material for awards submissions every day. Maybe he should do something more relatably shady.
Well for years we knew a lot of awarded work out of Brazil was phony but this is the first time they’ve been caught
Cool so nobody wants to tell me what this poor guy did?
He also used AI to fake the contents of a Ted Talk to support the case study.
I wanna find the original CNN and Ted Talk clips just to compare how they were altered…
This! Anyone got the links?
What no one talks about is that clients desperately want to win these awards now as well. Previously a client would have pumped the brakes on obviously fake shit. Not anymore. Everyone turns a blind eye if they think they'll benefit. But it's just the creatives that pay the price when they get found out.
Ai testimonial, BAD
Guy looks like a goober.
He’ll be fine. Will freelance at massive day rate until scooped up by another agency.
Cannes should retroactively rescind awards. They are tonnes of responsible agencies, people 🤷🏻♀️ (If you’re gonna do it, do it properly)
