Inexperienced with attorneys and wondering if my dissatisfaction is warranted. I hired an attorney to handle an issue for me. Attorney I hired is a partner at a boutique, and I made the decision to sign a service agreement to be represented by the partner. At my preliminary hearing, the partner wasn’t in attendance, but rather sent the associate whom is a recent member of the bar, and I assume lacks trial experience. Needless to say, I didn’t get my case dismissed but am now bound for trial.

I feel as though I should have been represented at my hearing by the atty I hired.

The associate only asked ~8 questions on my behalf, and the officer that initiated the arrest wasn’t in attendance either, so only person who showed up to testify was the detective the case was handed off to - as a result of the initial officer’s arrest.

Additionally, I was presented a plea from the prosecution by my attorney, but only 10 minutes before the docket. I was told I had to accept before we had the hearing or the prosecution would resend the offer, so I declined. I had asked the associate for advice deciding but they weren’t helpful and just basically said it’s my decision to make-as if I’m not paying the firm for advice and counsel.

I’m not happy at this point, and trying to determine if I’m right or wrong about my dissatisfaction before I speak with the partner.
