Interviewed for a dream position and was advised of a dollar certain salary as opposed to a range. Does this mean there is no wiggle room for negotiation? New to job seeking (ugh!) and would appreciate any input.

I would say the opposite, actually. That being said, they are probably better negotiators than the ones giving ranges, so I'd be prepared with supportable arguments.

It never hurts to ask. However, if this is your first job after college and you have no experience, in this job market be aware that they may not be inclined to negotiate. So perhaps ask for a performance review and raise consideration in 6 months instead of one year if they won’t negotiate on pay or benefits (e.g., once you’ve gotten some experience, you can often negotiate for more leave if you can’t get pay higher. But keep it respectful and an ask, not a demand. “I’m really worried about what might happen with inflation in the next 6 months. Is there any way that salary could be a little higher?” ESPECIALLY if you’re worried. Market comps to support your ask also help. Good luck!

There’s usually always room. Ask for $20k more, at the minimum 10k. It actually looks bad if you’re afraid to ask imo.

Is it a law firm? If so, the firm may have lockstep or set salaries depending on a candidate’s years of experience.

How possible is it to build a US-based career doing global public sector work while not being in New York or DC?

Currently a Manager at Accenture in Public Sector. Living in a progressive US city with a few direct flights to Europe, but definitely not New York or DC. PhD in public affairs. Actually I'm on the hiring roster for a P3 role at the UN.

Considering some life choices that would keep me living where I am though. Debating if this would kill hope of global work.

Hello guys, I am a ML Engineer by profession and have recently heard about the AI Centre of Excellence at TCS.

I've that the COE team is supposed to guide TCS employees on client end. However, I've also heard that as they do not generate any profits, TCS moves them to client side as soon as possible.

Could anyone please share some insights about work at the AI COE at TCS? How's the team and how's overall growth in terms of skills and payscale? Are there any drawbacks of joining AI COE?

Layoffs. Most big firms say they're sitting on a conservative pile of cash - which I believe is true - but work will obviously not return to pre-COVID levels in the short term, probably not even in the medium term. Are Biglaw layoffs coming?

How are 1st year litigation associates dealing with WFH? I’ve been having terrible anxiety/panic attacks, and pretty sure my billables wont exceed 110 for April. I’ve been super stressed about it and don’t know how to move on to May with the proper mindset to make up for as much time missed as possible. CA courts are still closed, and I’m worried I won’t be able to exceed (or even meet) my May goal after April.

I’ve practiced litigation in DC for about 5+ years at a larger plaintiffs’ firm, and am considering a switch to a defense firm. Does anyone know how litigation finance works on the plaintiff side? If someone wanted to bring a lawsuit against their former employer would a general contingency arrangement with a plaintiff’s firm make sense? Or would one need to find funding and then contact a plaintiff’s firm to actually handle the case? I’m a transactional lawyer, so this is out of my wheelhouse.
