I’m in house and I said that I was ready to become an expert in the sector. That I’ve spent the last 10 years bopping around from financial institutions, to cereal, to automotive, to airline, to dairy, to fast food chains, etc etc etc and that I wanted to hunker down and immerse myself into one singular brand/industry. I told them that a “jack of all trades is a master of none” and that I wanted to become a master at something. I got the job. :)
I’ve given a similar answer when going in house and getting this question and got the job as well.
You have an unquenchable passion for fresh produce.
My mom wishes
Tell them you’re hungry
“I want to get closer to my target audience.” If they ask you a stupid question like that, they get a stupid answer. (Real answer: “BC agency creative departments are dead, and I need to make a living.”)
Tell them, “I simply wanted a price check and the stock boy sent me here.”
There are so many benefits of being client side. Less back and forth, more say over the creative output!
Maybe something like: my preference is to Focus on results and consistency as opposed to agency politics and new biz
When I moved to an in-house job and got asked this, I said that there’s so much going on at agencies, I hardly ever got the chance to really dig deep and focus on a single brand - I wanted to be able to concentrate on and get to know the brand really well without being distracted by needing to work on other clients or new business pitches.
They bought it.
That it’s a new set up is really enticing! Inventing the recipes…and you know where you’ll be shopping for all the finest ingredients ;) Fingers crossed for you and good luck! 🛒

Tell them you’ve always wanted to move to Lakeland? I would say you’ve always admired the brand or if you have CPG experience that you like the idea of “focusing on one industry” Iike the example given above.
So many good and funny answers, thanks for sharing everyone!
On a serious note: wishing you luck!
