Is anyone using tools like JobScan that score your resume based on the job description, to optimize resumes for ATS? Or are those a waste of time?

Tomorrow is the 1 year anniversary of the passing of my roommates mom. She’s devastated and I know tomorrow will be hard. Any ideas on what I can do to help her through appreciated.

But I want to use this opportunity to get promoted, how can I get this across? Mgr is new(they fired my old mgr), mgr’s mgr is new too(re-org). So not sure if I should/can make a case, or how.

Joining Google in a few weeks and assuming I will be moving to the Bay Area sometime this year. For people who have kids, what do you do about schools? My wife and I are looking to buy a place but most the public schools in the South Bay are rated terribly. It’s good to note we don’t have kids yet but are trying to think longer term. Are schools even considered in the resale value of a house? Thoughts and insights appreciated!

My accounting edge finance is not compatible with the new Mac OS. I do not need the $15/month subscription they offering as an upgrade since I’m a lone freelancer. Currently an M&A Tax A2 (HCOL) at KPMG, just received offer from Deloitte (same group, same city) as S1 with 6.5% raise. Raise is obviously too low; not sure what is typical salary increase from A2>S1. What would be a good counter? Should it be equal to typical raise or even higher?

If you interview for a job but are not offered the position, is it weird to try to connect with some of your interviewers on LinkedIn? I genuinely liked some of my interviewers, but apparently the company identified a candidate whom it believes is a better fit.
