For those who completed their SHRM certification this year (CP or SCP) and opted for self study, what study materials did you use to prepare?

For SCP I used the SHRM prep course. Took the quizzes over and over and over again.

like

Yep, I think that helps the most really

I did SCP and used the SHRM test prep. The practice tests - for each section and for the overall exam - helped a lot and I recommend doing them all. I found on practice tests that there were a number of questions that technically had multiple right answers (even according to SHRM’s own prep books) but obviously only one actually counted as correct. Over time with practice tests I got a good sense of what they wanted in those scenarios.

I did SHRM-CP and used HRJetpack course which came with SHRM learning system. Also, I used Victoria Purser’s study course, really good.

like

I did CP and used the SHRM self study course. Like people have said if you drill those practice quizzes and tests you learn what they are looking for. I also gave myself plenty of time to do the self study (5 months).

Anybody do an instructor led course? Is there value to that?

Does anyone have the 2020 SHRM books for sale or to borrow? My job won’t contribute towards my certification. I’ve already paid for my test. I have the books from 2015 but I’d like to study from the 2020. I tried finding them online to purchase but sellers of affordable books aren’t responding.

I've been working at this company for about 3.5 weeks now. Its been great so far.

We have an org chart in our dashboard ATS/HRIS and so I clicked on my first day buddies name just for fun.

I was able to see her entire employee file..even her address. I was really freaked out and I went to another profile and the same thing happened, I was able to see this person's emergency contact. Is this fucking normal? Should I say something and will I get in trouble for looking at a colleagues file?

What is the average amount of time to fill a role? How long in advance should a recruiter start working with a hiring manager to get their position posted? I think it depends on the industry but curious to hear if there is a national average and if that number is even realistic given the increased number of roles in the market. Also curious to know what average numbers some of you are seeing in your companies.

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

I am looking to make a career change to HR. I currently make 75K as a sales and development coach. I had a recent offer for a state government position in a talent acquisition role but I’d be taking a $25K pay cut. I am extremely over qualified for the position but it could possibly be a stepping stone and gives me the time to acquire SHRM certifications and possibly start taking classes to get my MBA. My question is those currently in an HR role, would this move make sense to you?
