Smarht Parhk? Nice .
Hello Everyone!
I have done my bachelor's in mechanical engineering and master's in engineering management for process excellence from the uni of Glasgow and uni of Strathclyde respectively. I'm currently looking for jobs and have 2 years of running my own company. I'd be glad if anyone can help me with this and guide me accordingly. It would be ideal if I could get anything in process/operations but I'm flexible and am open to explore new areas.
Regards,
Aman

Hmmmm.
I'm inclined to say "IT Audits are IT Audits"..... But I've also seen some of our hires from non big 4 firms and the quality is totally different. Even when I was in External, the difference between having a Big 4 auditor leading the walkthrough vs a non Big 4 auditor is honestly (usually) night and day.
They can go through an entire walkthrough and not understand the controls or the system and not get anything useful from it, vs throw a big 4 auditor with no background at the problem and atleast they'll (usually) ask good questions. And I think that's the difference.
Both can put out a good work product, but if it's about consistency or ability to be constantly thrust in front of new problems with no background..... I think there's a definite advantage
Completely agree on this one. Even some of the experienced seniors we got… lower technical knowledge or training on testing controls than I expected.
In what way?
No. The only difference might be in Big4 it’s more external audit work and in industry you’re working in house so you might do Sox controls testing but then may also do operational type audits
Don't know why that would be the case. People move between big 4 and non big 4 firms all the time. It's literally impossible for there to be a clear distinction in quality, experience or technical knowledge. There are experts and fakers at every firm. Just depends on who you run across. And any info you gather on this in this thread (including my comments) would come down to anecdotes and preconceptions.
Big 4 also would likely have more detailed application control experience, and likely more pre/post implementation experience.
Maybe...I don't think it's as big of a deal honestly when it comes to IT audits but maybe I'm wrong?
On resume, yes. You're assumed to have good knowledge of audit processes and exposure to learnings from your clients
