More than likely, everyone you’ve dealt with at the spurned agency will be gone by the time you apply for another job there, if you ever do. But even if you burn that bridge, take the better offer. It’s business, not personal.
Exactly. The only loyalty you need to have is to your wallet. Every agency out there will lay you off without hesitation.
Agencies pull out of offers why can’t you.
Sure. And if they try to stop you, just quit on day 1. It’s a probationary period after all. Things move too fast in this business and there’s too much to worry about now for anyone to focus for too long on something like this.
I once walked away from a job offer after the company wouldn’t negotiate terms and the head of the agency had a hilarious hissy fit and said some nasty things to me (which just served to validate my decision, honestly) but nothing ever followed me from it and now that agency no longer exists. 🤷♂️
Yea, people who try to burn people tend to have reputations that render their opinion of you moot to the vast majority of people
It’s business.
Always pull out
Use it to negotiate!
I recently had someone pull out of a partner position 5 days before start date and it has absolutely royally screwed me over. We have to start the whole process again and the role probably won’t be filled until December. My boss won’t hire freelance because I used to write, and he can support for long form.
If I come across this writer again, I will not forget this happened. Like I get it money talks, but bro really?! 5 days before is a wild choice.
Yeah it’s on the agency to fill it, but it’s not on them to know if someone is just using a signed offer for more salary leverage at their current job. It’s super unprofessional to take back an acceptance especially so close to start date. The question wasn’t about who’s responsible for hiring, it’s about whether or not you burn bridges this way. And my answer is yes.
