I do this all the time until I actually started counting my macros and losing weight faster. I set really small goals for myself aside from losing lbs I would pick a pair of jeans or a dress I wanted to look better in and focused on that. It’s not easy but super empowering.
Thanks! I like this idea.
I was a serial dieter for a decade but grew up a picky eater so went the extreme exercise/diet route vs. just eat healthier route to lose weight. As I got into my late 20s + covid lockdown, I started experiencing more stomach pains after every dinner and realized it was from high fat/sugar/dairy meals. Additionally, at my age, I realized I needed to be able to eat more food so I started a picky eating challenge for myself to try one commonly liked healthy food (ie veggies, fish, fruit) each month for a year. Lastly, being in lockdown without a proper gym, I got an IG and started following nutritionists and learned I had a VERY unhealthy relationship with food.
So basically all three of those things forced me to change my whole perspective around my health and how I eat. I don’t “diet” anymore, and to be successful on my health journey, I have implemented intuitive eating, eating more balanced plates, and added weight lifting. I’m still struggling a bit and learning what works best but I feel much better on this journey than when I was constantly starving and unhappy in my late teens/early 20s.
My advice: Start with what’s in your kitchen. No sodas or fruit juices, switch to whole wheat bread, protein/whole grain/veggie pasta, switch from ranch to vinaigrettes for salad, make sure to always have fruits and veggies on hand and have at least one per meal, add more healthy proteins with each meal. Don’t exclude treats for yourself because excluding altogether increases the craving more but if you’re at a point right now where you can’t control yourself from having a healthy portion size of it, avoid that for now. Additionally, I’d watch Renaissance Periodization’s Healthy Eating Made Simple playlist on youtube. Someone here had suggested that for me and it really helped solidify the healthy eating principles I knew how to do but couldn’t consistently implement and made it easier to do daily. If you don’t know what healthy eating really is, then the playlist is a good lesson plan. For nutritionists, follow ETLmethod, dietitian.rachelgoodman, teachertastes, rpstrength, and collegenutritionist.

There isn’t a magic fix, no fad diet or workout program will solve things easily for you.
What helped for me:
1) Big enough pain by looking at fat pictures of me
2) Finding a healthy eating habit that works for me and doesn’t feel like a diet (in my case: high protein, low calorie dense foods for 80-90% of meals with some treat meals every once in a while)
3) Finding activities that you enjoy and want to do (lifting, hiking and Paddleboarding for me)
4) Plan small incremental changes, start now and don’t beat yourself up if you slip on the way

Yes, I did track my food. Especially in the beginning. It seems like a chore, but it’s the only way to ensure a deficit for me. Guessing is just way too far off. Not tracking leads to the big risk of you feeling like you’re restricting yourself, while not seeing progress. I would always prefer being in a measurable deficit and seeing the weight loss over that lack of clarity.

You’ve gotta change the food in your environment. That’s what’s really going to make the difference.
Eg : I love bread, but, I know eating bread is no good for me. So I don’t buy any at the grocery store, so it’s not in my cabinet. Same thing with candy. If it’s not in your environment it’ll be much harder to eat.
Discipline > motivation. You’ve got this!!! Be really honest with yourself on what feels good, and don’t stop moving. Plan rest days with long walks so you don’t overdo it. Good luck!!! Rooting for you
I actually just try to add healthier things in rather than take things out or follow a specific diet. This way, it becomes a more pleasant, gradual lifestyle change that allows room for indulgence & no need to abandon or guilt-trip myself. Over time, you genuinely start to opt for the healthier choice because it makes you feel better.
I am using Factor for my meals. I realized I can’t cook healthy and will order out if I have a choice between making food or buying food. So I’m trying to keep my fridge stocked with ready to eat meals
I actually am! I was surprised since I’m Latina and my food needs to be well seasoned but it’s great. I’m doing the Keto meal box and it’s making Keto less miserable which is saying something. I have a referral code if you want to try it
