Yes! Not to mention I’ve been keeping an eye on job listings for about a year now and wages continually decline (an in house role that was $120-150k last year is $100-120k this year). It’s tough out there!
Oh definitely! Part of it is certainly right sizing salaries, but it’s been interesting seeing what titles and what companies are rolling back more!
Although I love my company and position, I'll occasionally pop on job listing sites to see salary ranges, job market changes, and such... and you're not wrong. There are fewer postings, and I often see the same one posted months later.
I've seen one role in particular at JP Morgan Chase continually reposted for a year now. Its insane.
You’re spot on. It hasn’t bounced back the way people hoped. The “great resignation” was a blip that got overhyped, what followed was hiring freezes, budget cuts, and inflated job postings with no intent to fill. And now with AI? so many people losing jobs. A
I feel like if you didn't moved during that like 3-6 month blip you've been SOL.
I know so many people that have been trying to change jobs for a while now to no avail. And so many teams are already so stretched thin there is no way they can possibly function with any additional layoffs. Something has to give.
I think things were not doing so great even before the pandemic, but that definitely made a lot of things worse. And it has never really straightened out. I think a lot of it just relates to corporate profits and upper management being focused on quarterly earnings. What matters to the people upstairs is being able to announce at every quarterly earnings call that they're cutting costs. The analysts from Wall Street banks love hearing that. And of course that means eliminating jobs or squeezing the employees to get every last drop of work out of them. And now with the trade war likely pushing us into a recession, companies are really just fearful of doing any hiring.
