I put in my December vacation request months ago, but now an attorney is asking me to cancel because their family decided to go skiing last-minute and they need support. I love being a team player, but I also planned my time off early for a reason. How do you protect your holiday boundaries without getting labeled difficult?

I regret not applying to Harvard. I never thought I’d get into a top school and then got into wharton with a 100k fellowship - which changed my entire perspective. It sucks thinking “what if…”. I just didn’t have the confidence and thought wharton was a reach so why bother with H/S 🙃 hope this inspires someone to just shoot their shot - you never know

I currently work in Healthcare as a respiratory therapist for 10 years. I have been at my job, currently, for a little over 5 years. Alongside my bachelors degree I also have a masters degree in healthcare administration. I’ve worked at places that all have different holiday policies. EA has at minimum a nice 10 day shutdown from Christmas Eve through New Years. It’s great to know that there will be no slack messages or an exploded inbox to come back to while away. I’ve been at other studios that only give you Christmas Eve & Day and New Years Eve & Day and then the rest is up to you to request for PTO and this is obviously the suck.

Where do you find the time to get everything done in the day when you have multiple partners, associates and equity partners that interrupt you and want things turned around immediately while simultaneously working on deadlines? I feel like I’m the only one that can’t manage a 70+ case load without letting someone down. I constantly have to say “Can I do this tomorrow?” Etc. I don’t even have time to bill on the clock. Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.
