Set something exciting to do twice a week- go to a beach, take a day trip to somewhere you’ve never been, take up a new hobby- crocheting, knitting, painting, etc., and go visit someone you haven’t seen for a long time, and go see a new movie, for just a few suggestions. The point I’m making is have something you look forward to each week. When you do it, put your whole self into it and enjoy it thoroughly! It’s hard for teachers to not be “on the go” 24/7 with work and then suddenly just stop! Take this time for yourself to relax and rejuvenate! Think of the “now” and “today” and stay focused on enjoyment! Good luck!
This is crazy lol. I say pick up a new hobby, make some effort with old friends, or pick up some library books. You gotta take care of yourself in the summer, can't spend this time off missing teaching, the break is already so short!
Honestly, it's hard to get out of the busy mindset of the school year. There's something exciting about the energy and the routine. I also feel restless until I settle into my "summer life," and then of course the school year starts again :)
Not weird at all! Your mind and body are used to a certain rhythm and pace. After 2 weeks, it feels like time to go back to it. OK, so what to do with those feelings?
You can do as a previous teacher suggests and find something non-teaching-related.
I personally really enjoy lesson planning and developing new material. I find it so delicious to be able to do that over an extended period of time with few competing responsibilities (can you tell my kids are grown?) And it gives me a bump in September. So I do that, among other things.
There's a lot of right ways to do this. What's going to be your way this summer?
Nah,you are use to a schedule. Put yourself on one.1.Spend time listening to Ken Hagin.2. Classical music3.10am The View4.Y&R5. CNN6.1pm Judge Judy2 pm .TMZ3.Kelli Clarkson. Etc.
Well I'm not there yet myself. Usually by mid to late July I start to get a little anxious and missing school. Of course, once school starts, I quickly miss summer break lol
It’s not crazy at all! It is so hard to “come down” from all the adrenaline of the school schedule.
For me, my mornings are great, when I can enjoy my coffee and “feel” like I’m on vacation… my evenings are great, staying up late… but oh my gosh -
I find myself having panic attacks in the early afternoon.
So just know you’re not alone… it’s normal!
It is not crazy! Personally, I thrive in routines and when I don’t have one, I struggle a bit. I have summer routines to help me make the most of my time so I don’t feel like I am wasting my days. I find that it helps to do things I need to do- work out, organize stuff, complete PD work, and then plan some fun- like pool time, afternoons with friends and family, day trips, etc. It will be time to get back to school before we know it!
Your Body needs time to rest. You have been on a tight schedule for the entire school year. So relax and enjoy your well deserved time off. Plan fun activities to do, visit places you haven't seen, hang with friends and family folks, take trips, read books you couldn't read during the school year, and go for walks. Our summer ☀️ vacation will be over before you know it!!!
