Is it wrong to get a little thrill when a major company gets publicly slammed for privacy violations? It's not that I wish them ill, but it proves that what I do matters...

Thrill is probably the wrong word, but reinforced sense of relevance/job security - yes

like

Not really. Been on both sides of the coin. Just job security.

This. There but for the grace of God go I.

Most of the time the things they get slammed for aren't actually privacy violations. They are just PR issues because users and the media barely understand the law, industry norms, or how to read a privacy policy.

Are we talking about regulatory enforcement or just hyped up PR press cycles?

Clerks, at what point in your clerkship did you start applying for jobs? I’m about halfway through a two year clerkship in my intended market and I am trying to figure out when I need to seriously start applying.

I’ve been at my clerkship for 5 years (4 with a different judge) and one with my current judge, and I heard horrible things about him before starting, but I assumed they were exaggerated. Turns out they’re all true, and I’ve had to start therapy to deal with him and the incredibly toxic environment. I’m trying to get out ASAP b/c he also has a history of firing clerks without cause or notice, but I think I’ll only be able to give two weeks notice if i get the job I’m interviewing for. Thoughts?

Additional Posts in Privacy Law

Hi all,
Been doing privacy for about a year now in-house. Got my CIPP/US.
Having major imposter syndrome still. I feel like the minute I finally have a grasp, something changes. The law and nuances just seem overwhelming. Maybe it’s just a lack of guidance/uniformity in the US. I’m not sure if I feel this way because it is simply the nature of the work or because I’m just not capable.

Hello, MSL grad student here, looking for externships 🙏

I am preparing for the CIPP/US exam using their official textbook (3rd Ed). If anyone has a good outline, would you be willing to share? I tried to create one myself but it is taking way too long :/ Thanks so much in advance!

Hi all! I’m inclined on taking up the CIPM training and certification exam. I’m already a certified Data Protection Officer in the Philippines. I intend on skipping CIPP as it applies to the US and EU.

How difficult was the exam? Can you share your experience studying for the CIPM exam? Is it advisable to skip CIPP?

Many thanks in advance.
