Are you doing any privacy related work currently?
Not sure if a con, per se, but the Big Four doing privacy, doing it well, and doing it much cheaper than big law.
Agree- not the same job at all. Consulting is a foot in the door from an operations perspective, but in house or at a firm deal with much broader privacy related matters.
The work can be totally different. I learnt way more in a law firm. But it all depends on you personal goals too. In law firms, it is easier to get a sense of a project. You can get involved in projects from scratch. While you’re working in an in-house role, you always have to consider the particularities of the company (i.e. privacy culture, relationship with other departments…). I hope this helps!
If your goal is to be at the top of the market or have the most options, Go to BigLaw if you can deal for some time (2-3 years). It will open more doors at the top of the market
A1 didn’t say not doable or doesn’t happen. I know several who have done it. However, it remains statistically less likely and less common a path.
