Is Open Access actually better for the patient? I don't think family should be allowed in the room during high-acuity procedures, and I’m tired of pretending otherwise. I know the patient-centered care gurus say it’s better, but having to manage a fainting spouse while also managing a patient is a safety hazard. We need space to workl.

I actually didn’t know this was a thing during high acuity procedures. I understand having a support person or people in general but not during procedures.

I agree with procedures and less the better. I told the medical staff I wanted to be in the room when they took my father off of life support. I told them I would stand at the foot of the bed. I looked at my sisters and I told them if they started acting crazy I’d kick them out of the little glass room we were in!

High acuity procedures is no place for families. His families think they can take care of the patients better than us then they should take their patients home that is not a place for patients of families to be unless you’re looking for a lawsuit anything to do with nurses being in a room with a patient or a doctor being in a room with the patient or if you needed two nurses to do something with the patient and the family wanted to be there it’s an absolute no they need to wait in the waiting room down the hall. never jeopardize your nursing license for Family or anybody else.
