Is there a single consulting firm out there that doesn’t make you set goals as part of your yearly activities?

Nobody cares about changing achieving your goals if you deliver on key business metrics (be in utilisation, selling credit, w/e)

lol no

Every firm has people set goals. What actually matters is whether managers pay attention to them.

like

Yep. Mostly it’s a box to check off unless they are being used to get rid of someone.

I have to do that even outside of consulting.
I think it’s a good practice tbh

like

I think that should be part of it, but I also think that your individual goals should be set with your manager/coach. Ideally tied to a company goal - what does the company want to achieve in X capacity, and what can I do to help with that? That’s what my goal is

Why would you not want to have goals? It’s the only way to ask for a raise or bonus etc. I get that those are not always honored , but without goals you won’t any benchmarks.

Companies without goals are probably planning bankruptcy

So like no goals, lets go with the flow?

In 11years at PwC, I wrote goals only the first year. The firm changed the annual review process the year I was hired (2014). I never write goals after that.

like

We are “encouraged” to set goals and review them with our coach/performance manager, and the expectation is that you track towards those goals to quantify your EOY review….but it’s not officially tracked or required.

I don’t think there’s a single job that doesn’t make you set goals unless it’s burger flipping

The smaller the company the less goals you will probably be expected to set with management or others. On the flip side you will be in a reactive state of mind if you don’t set your goals yourself. Smaller companies will probably already have you doing more than average large orgs out there. Less team and more just you and customers.

We are all packed and done followed all instructions thank you so much!

Setting goals is required at every company I’ve ever worked for.

Hello! I need some (creative) suggestions on how to do a video interview. I live in a very small 1br apartment with my husband occupying the bedroom for work during the day and a 2 yr old occupying the living area. I thought of the kitchen but it’s proximity to a busy road makes it a little too noisy to have a good call. The bathroom perhaps? Will that create an echo? I am thinking of using a backdrop so that the mess will be covered up. It will be a 30-min interview.

Our firm told everyone no bonuses this year due to the pandemic. However, people like myself with high utilization received a “bonus” in terms of a gift card. My director notified me of this, but the other day my boss was mentioning how no bonuses this year really sucks. I was told by the director to not mention it to anyone but I figured if anyone knew I got one it’d be my boss. I feel super uncomfortable now because do I essentially lie to my boss because I’m not supposed to talk about it.
