Not an FA but work at an airline now. Our acceptance rate for FA applications right now is about 6%.
But anyone on FB likely clears a lot of hurdles. The “hardest” one for someone on here would be the personality. We have learned that certain personalities traits align well to success as an FA so we only take people with those traits.
Also the above comments about seniority are right on target.
DM me if you want more details.
Following! I often think about becoming a flight attendant
A1, seniority is a very real thing for FA. Those low in the pecking order get the worst routes, schedules, etc.
Decades ago, I worked for an airline and it was one of my favorite jobs I ever had. Fast-paced, never boring, interesting people, incredible travel benefits…
For most airlines, FA positions have “cattle call” style interviews where they judge things like your personality, how you engage with others, etc… if you’re able to catch their eye during the group open interview and get a call-back, the job is yours to lose.
The screening and training is intense, but it’s all paid, and then expect to work the shittiest routes and have the shittiest schedule for the first few years because seniority is everything.
Female, but in my hiring pool it was a pretty even split of women to men who got selected – and while there was definitely a decent amount of gay men, there were plenty of straight men too. They mostly seemed to be looking for people who carried themselves with confidence, were friendly and approachable, and who were very comfortable speaking in a large group setting.
