After doing several reachouts last year I just want to minimize fatigue, frustration, and time wasted.
You should approach this as a strategist. You said you narrowed down and someone said further and you said I want to reach all 40 without fatigue?!?! You seem to have 2 goals, employed quick or great fit. Pick one. Forget DEI or other blacks in company because few places care enough or have the AA scale to matter. The ERGs meet to talk about Kanye antics or spoken word shows so you have to prioritize your mental health and mentorship on your own.
1. Focus on getting a job in this economy. Prioritize into 3 tiers with 6-10 in each tier and customize resumes, cover letters and outreach.
2. It’s about contacts, who you know that can vouch for you, can submit your resume or make an intro.
Layoffs are rampant and you know who gets impacted most???

Pick 5-6 to approach. Approaching so many means your messaging will be repetitive and not personal enough. Only approach agencies that interest you.
SC1, Appreciate your response. That’s the thing though as of now I have 40 because they interest me, and with things being the way that are within the market I’m trying to get work sooner, rather than later. Sometimes I feel like the more places I reach out to that are aligned the more opportunities could arise, just trying to find balance.
I’ve only mentioned DEI because I worked at a small white shop with really no strategic foundation, name recognition, or support for POC talent - it was hell. I Never want to go through that again, ever.

Well, learn to cull down on your own. Or not.
Advertising agencies are mostly anti-Black. Very few places care about minorities regardless of what they post about.
Be strategic with your search. What are your strengths? (CPG, Gen Z, Sheet Metal, etc) Highlight those and reach out to agencies where this would be attractive.
