How long is left on the contract at the first place? Can you do both and just double dip?
It’s not the best look to bail mid-contract… you’ll likely burn the bridge with the first place and beyond that, it’s a small industry and you don’t want word getting out that you’re not reliable.
That said, part of the benefit of freelance is you can just do what’s right for you, and places will sometimes cut you loose early with no notice. So you definitely “can” end things early, you’ll just need to evaluate whether you “should.”
How long is the first project? Can you delay the second one for a week and do both? Or allow a short overlap? Best not to burn bridges if you can avoid it. You never know who you’ll need or who will give you the most reliable work in the medium/long term. As a freelancer, regular gigs matter as much as the brands you work for and work on.
When I first went freelance I had three prestigious places offer me gigs at once. I picked one and never got calls from the other two again. If I could go back I would've taken all three and see what happened.

Yep! Especially, because some go on hold. Or the scope changes.
What’s the niche project? Hand it off?
