Ive been trying to think of ways to get a leg up in this job market. What are some good ways to shmooze recruiters without looking too desperate? Send a gift? Be extra polite? Whats the secret? 🤔

I don’t think anyone has the secret—we’re all just doing the best we can. It definitely doesn’t hurt to be extra polite to the recruiter, but I probably wouldn’t send a gift. Recruiters are notorious for ghosting, and that could get expensive if you’re sending gifts to every one of them.

Follow up. I thought I was ghosted for almost 3 weeks, decided I had nothing to lose, and sent another message. The recruiter contacted me the next day, apologized for the delay, and I started going through the interview process. Your results will obviously vary a lot, but you have nothing to lose. Recruiters are seeing people constantly, and it’s very easy to slip through the cracks.

It happened again today. I was walking from my car into a building and remembered I had forgotten to lock my car. I had the urge to turn around but I remembered that the only valuable thing in my car was my work laptop. And I would cry tears of joy if someone broke into my car and stole my work laptop. I've been engaged in the Google SWE interview process for the last couple months. Just got confirmation today I passed Hiring Committee and will go into team matching.
