I’ve been waiting almost three weeks for an update from a company I really liked. They said they’d get back to me, and part of me wants to trust that but the silence is getting to me. How can I follow up without sounding anxious?

I personally feel like following up without updates on your end (i.e., you have another offer), is a bit useless, but not necessarily harmful. You can just send a short email requesting an update on the status of your application/the recruiting process - and then forget about it until/unless you here from them. Hard I know, but try to fill your time with something else.

I would move on and focus on other things. If they want you, they'll contact you.

Ask if there are any updates, and then move on. Three weeks is a long time not to hear anything back.

Follow-up. You've waited a more than reasonable amount of time. Don't hold your breath, though, because it's not a great sign. Keep job hunting.

Is it crazy to leave my job at EY to take a lower paying position in industry? I'm a recently promoted tax manager making about 140k. I've been considering going to industry for a while, gotten a couple offers, but they're all pretty low (<$120k). Honestly, the $20k difference isn't that much, but I've also been considering taking job that pay maybe $90k and doing work on the side (my own "firm"). But it also feels strange to accept such a lower salary. Thoughts?

Feel like audit scheduling is always done on a knifes edge in that the timeline and staff schedules are enough so that if everyone works 60 hour weeks and no issues are identified then it can be filed on time.
