I would never leave a job to take a pay cut unless staying at my current job is seriously affecting my mental health (i.e. suicidal). Just keep interviewing. You never want to take any ole offer just cause you’re running away from your current situation.
What sub service line pays $140K to new manager? Transfer pricing?
Many. Could be ITS or other specialty tax lines.
Wow 140 as a new manager. Year 4 at manager in Public Sector and not even making that.
I did because I was forced to due to layoff, but I’m so much happier now that I don’t mind and haven’t missed the expenses I have cut out or delayed.
I’d just try doing less first. Set expectations with your partner that you need more balance (or whatever you want to call it). Expect a lower rating, but most people are rated average regardless. It’s totally possible.
Thanks, yeah, the thing is I don't think I'm burnt out. I very well could be, but I'm not working more than 45 hours/week, so don't think that's it. I can't just do less work unfortunately. If I'm not chargeable enough, I know the firm will put me on one of the terrible engagements.
In a similar position and have considered taking a paycut also. I've looked for some time and have come to accept that paycut will be a reality. The truth is the longer you stay at the firm, the more likely it is you may be priced out of the market. I have seen and heard this to be true at the senior manager level for certain, but in some service lines at the manager level. I think it just depends on your personal situation, what your goals are, and whether you can make the finances work. Career and/or salary progression is not always linear.
Yeah it’s crazy. It’s just not necessary unless you’re on the verge of death staying. There are definitely more options out there than such a drastic cut.
Thanks all. I'm not going to die in the role. I've just discovered that I don't really like it anymore. Thought it was a phase that would pass, but I've just been generally pretty bored, and feel like I'm not really growing.
I could go all in and put in a ton of effort and maybe get put on the right projects, etc., but I just don't see staying at EY for more than another year or two even if I did that, so I'm sort of just coasting and staying afloat.
I feel ya, I'm a 3rd year senior and I'm starting to get really bored. Same stuff say after day starts to get numbing.
Don’t take a pay cut to do similar work elsewhere. Leverage the big 4 name brand and get that 20-30% bump.
But also if you’d work a lot less making 90k to spend time to start your own firm. Then By all means!! Good luck!
