I've been with my current company for 20+ years. They recently promoted a colleague, at similar tenure and experience, to Partner. It's obvious that he's been groomed into this role over the years. It's been stated to me that there is currently no option for my being promoted into a Partner role, since this person allows them to attain "minority owned business" status. This limits my advancement opportunities solely to salary increases. How do I frame this in a negotiation?

Are nyou looking to negotiate more money rather than the title itself then? Or something other than $?

Well, money is a factor, as they are still also paying me below market rate for similar positions. I expected Partner to come with a salary adjustment and increased profit sharing.

The title and position within the leadership structure is also important. Aside from the money aspect, one could look at a non-equity Partner option which would not impact the ownership for the MOB status.

You can simply say you are looking for advancement opportunities that are not currently available to you. I don't necessarily think you need to get more detailed than that.

Are you looking to negotiate more salary or looking to use this as leverage for a transition?

Transition to another firm? Maybe.

More money, yes as this is technically now my only advancement path within the current firm.

Hey fishes,

I recently moved from a big4 to another and I'm still on my probation period. I'm looking to move out to industry and need your help with the following:

1. What should I tell to the interviewer, if he asks why am I looking to move out of a firm within a month?
2. What should I tell to my existing firm? If they ask me a reason for moving out?

At what point does the value of a degree fall off? I'm in my early 30s, and have five years of experience, and work on a very theoretically interesting project. I believe I'm on track to promotion in the next year. So, I could put in a year of full time school to check the box off, but I'd be sacrificing hobbies and social life (not to mention cost). Is this FOMO or is there real opportunity here?

Hi everyone,

I have got the ey hr mail stating i should provide him with aadhar card, information sheet and latest resume for a audit and assurance contract for 6 months as iam a semi qualified CA.

Here my question is should i take this opportunity. Cause since this is only for 6 months. After that, what i can do, where should I try to get the job?

In mid size firms, people won't pay as much as big 4 pays.

Should I take it or am I making a mistake by taking this.

Hey All,
I finished a third round interview, and HR contacted me that afternoon saying I had positive feedback across the board and they would contact me the next day regarding next steps. It’s been two days and they finally get back to me saying they haven’t been able to sync with the hiring manager but will keep me posted. Honestly I wish they would talk with the hiring manager and then let me know the decision instead of checking in. It’s messing with my emotions.

How do I stop comparing myself to others? I know I shouldn’t, but practically speaking I can’t help it... every time I open LinkedIn... and I can’t not go to LinkedIn coz I am job hunting.

I’m currently in a lease admin type role, in commercial real estate. I make a base salary of $50.5K with about $9k in bonuses. I’ve continuously received 7-10% raises over the last 3 years. I anticipate getting a promotion this year and would like to get closer to $60k for my base salary. I’m the only person in my role at the company and have been a key person in developing our team as we look to expand. Is this unreasonable? Is there a normal increase given with promotions? Thanks in advance!

Things have been a bit bumpy (not a me issue) I have a new supervisor and was recently given 7 direct reports (I had zero before). The new position while comes with a significant raise is a move to California. Any thoughts?

I’m interviewing with a startup and the range has a 40k difference from the lowest to highest point. It’s also pre-seed and comes with equity, and health, 401k benefits. It’s a director of sales role so I would eventually be recruiting and managing a team along with building the processes and strategy. What would you consider a fair compensation package? If they offer me something on the lower end of the range, is it still appropriate to counter with an offer that is over their stated range?
