Generating paying clients is a different skill set. If it doesn't come naturally, you can be taught but for many the lessons are hard to successfully implement. Start trying to develop your own clients now before you are out of a steady paycheck.
Find someone else to work for. Starting your own firm is much, much more difficult.
I echo advice to start learning how to build a book of business in a firm job, then do your own thing.
If doing that at your current firm is a no-go, you can lateral to do it elsewhere. But I'd do it first in an environment where your livelihood isn't directly dependent on it, both to make sure it's something you'd like doing and to make sure it's something you can do well
