I’ve recently started using a “5% rule” where I never risk more than 5% of my options trading capital on a single trade. It’s helped me sleep better at night, but I’m curious if anyone else uses a similar rule or if there are better ways to manage risk in options trading. What’s your approach?

We have sales people in Canada and the US, the Canadians make 150K CAD and down here it’s 150K USD, the Canadians argue they should be making 30% more than the US colleagues to be equal bc of the exchange! I explain the salary is dependent on the market data for them in Canada, WHERE THEY LIVE, and you can’t compare it to the US employees and the market data down here. Overall they are both in the 75th% for total comp. for their industry. Am I wrong?

Been lurking on this group for a while. I’ve only traded stocks ever. What’s the best way to start with options? Any great video tutorials or websites that can help me understand the basics. I only have theoretical knowledge of options thanks to a derivatives class I did at college.

I’m seeing lots of posts about really bad losses. If you trade you’re going to lose money - hopefully not all the time, but many positions will be mistakes. But you need a process to find ideas and manage positions. Two books you should read are “The New Trading for a Livinng” and “The Laws of Trading.” Both look at psychology, process, and risk in different ways that can help you work out your own process. The next 18 months will be much harder than the last 18 - time to start learning.

How do you renegotiate your commission rate on TD Ameritrade and it’s platform ThinkOrSwim? Is this requested online or do you have to call in? Does it have a decent success rate? Im at the original .65.

How do real estate lenders take cash flow into consideration? For example, typically I would probably only be approved for a $500k loan ($125k comp and $100k for down payment), but if I’m buying a multi-family home and planning to live in a unit and rent the others, will lenders approve a bigger loan?
