I’ve seen at least three job postings this week labeled “junior” or “entry-level”, but they required a CFA, 5+ years of experience, and in one case, an MBA. I’ve been working in finance for three years, but apparently that still doesn’t make the cut. It’s hard not to feel discouraged when you’re told you’re “too green” for roles that are supposedly designed for people like you. What even is junior anymore? Are companies completely out of touch with reality?

I’m not sure if it’s the companies or the job boards, or a mix of both. I do try to see if posts are labeling it as entry-level, asking for all that experience and credentials. Either way, not exactly helping my job hunt when I have to sift through so many roles that don’t come close to working for me.

You’re definitely not alone, many people feel frustrated seeing ‘junior’ or ‘entry-level’ roles stacked with requirements that don’t make sense. A lot of companies inflate job descriptions to filter candidates, but that doesn’t always reflect what they truly need. With three years in finance, you already bring solid experience that should make you competitive for early- to mid-level roles. The key is often how your resume frames and emphasizes that experience.

I know a job search specialist who helped my brother land his dream role and who works with finance professionals on navigating exactly this kind of situation. If you’d like tailored guidance, you can send your resume to georgerobinsonhiringteam . gmail . com

I just bought an Alexa for my grandma's birthday. Her old radio broke and she's been kind of sad because she can't listen to her favorite music anymore while cooking, so I thought this would be a good pick. She'll have her favorite music right there.

Later today my grandpa tells me she's not been asking Alexa for her favorite music, but for her radio stations instead 😭😂

Advice needed on handing in notice, I recently signed an offer letter and understand the screening process takes 4-6 weeks. I have a month's notice period and have agreed a preliminary start date in Feb.

I was planning on not handing my notice in until the checks had been completed so its all secured (not that I think I will fail any checks), but apparently I need a reference from my current employer not previous ones. Can't really do this without handing in notice can I?

Just found out that end of the year I will be promoted from analyst directly to VP and since it’s such a large jump I’ll be the lowest paid VP in asset management at only $135k TC. Should I stay it out and wait for TC to align or take the promotion and jump ship bc I will likely get paid more elsewhere given how recruiters/other companies eat up hiring recently promoted ppl from other firms?
