You should look for full time. Scopes will be solidified this December or else January. I’d personally go client/brand side. Freelance freezes are already in effect in a lot of places I would think.
I would leave if I were 39 and didn’t have a kid and a mortgage. Absolutely.
What would you pivot to?

Are you able to go into an office? Remote right now is really a minority. This applies to all roles. I see roles but, it’s not for remote.
Most freelancers are not required in office even if nearby
Hard to say for sure without knowing more info, but, it’s a weird time for both freelance and advertising across the board… especially if you don’t have a great network established over years in the industry. If you can get in full time somewhere and build up the network that would be a solid move. As a writer you could look at agencies as well as brand side creative depts, and if you’re open to possibly relocating even better. Good writing is a skill every business needs in some capacity, even if more for emails/website copy. And on the side, continue looking for freelance, check in with your contacts, tell them about the cool new project you just finished (even if that’s a personal project or portfolio). I’m really not sure how 2026 will go as far as FL… there are a lot of talented people in the market right now, but there’s also a possibility of it turning into another 2021 once omc realizes they don’t have enough people to do the work anymore after their sweeping cuts.
I also just want to say, there’s no shame in doing what you need to do to get by - I know talented ad people who got a job at Trader Joe’s or did DoorDash to keep some income coming while looking for their next role. If you had mainly w2 jobs you can tap unemployment too. Hang in there.
