Interesting perspective because I have regretted going to college so many times in the last 5 years. My student debt is so overwhelming that I've really wondered why I even bothered if I was just going to becoming an administrative assistant. That being said, stories like this make me glad that I did stick it out!
I don’t agree with the idea that a degree outweighs experience. But I will say a degree seems to get you a place quicker. I have kids, and as much as I’m not a fan of college overall, I will say, they need to have some sort of 4-year degree in order to competitive and apply for jobs. do it the most affordable way possible- two years of CC, then transfer to cheap state school, finish BA, apply for every scholarship possible. I know it doesn’t seem “fair” but the degree will open up more doors than you think. my first year out of college in EARLY 2000’s, I was making 75-80k a year. Yes it was a sales job, BUT they wanted a degree. I think a degree helps show commitment and follow through. Just my 2 cents :)
I applied to one of those jobs 10 years ago except I think it was at Enterprise. I'm so glad I didn't get it and you should be too. By all accounts, that's a nightmare industry to work in.
They give you a company car and 2.5k bonus and that seemed amazing
Can't got bills.
I work for Avis on the corporate side- not Airport side. Yes, ABG requires a college degree. I will say it’s and up and down industry- there a great things about it (company car is a HUGE benefit)….. but the industry is very unpredictable. I will say it was a great industry to be in through COVID. While so many companies were doing poorly, car rental soared. I think there is a lot of great experience you can gain from the Car rental industry - but it’s not a forever home for me. I’m currently looking to move on from car rental. We will see what other doors open up. However, for over 10 years, it’s been good to me (Overall).
Have an interview soon. Should I be excited ?
